Askew News Askew School Ranks Nationally in Research Productivity by Fran Berry The Askew School continues a strong tradition of its faculty publishing in the best PA journals. A January article published in the Journal of Public Affairs Education (drawing from articles published in the 19 PA journals associated with sections of the American Society for Public Administration from 1993-2003) ranked the Askew School fourth in the country for faculty research productivity. One of our young full professors, Rick Feiock, was among the top ten most productive faculty, tied for ninth as the most published PA faculty member nationally. We are also the only PA School in the country that houses two of the top PA journals; both of the editors are top notch in their fields. Eminent Scholar Mary Ellen Guy edits the Review of Public Personnel Administration, and Professor Jim Bowman edits Public Integrity covering issues of ethics in public service. But this same January article also ranked the publishing prowess of graduate students in programs across the country. We are all very proud of the research productivity of our graduate students, as they ranked third in the country. Many of our students co-author with professors on our faculty, and other School graduate students. This academic year over 15 Askew School graduate students have presented their research papers at regional and national conferences, a first step towards getting feedback and exposure for successfully turning that research into publishable articles. I’d like to thank Jack Sisson for making a contribution to the Askew School Foundation Fund that allows us to provide travel support for students who present papers at conferences. This is a critical ingredient for students to understand the role research and intellectual exchange plays in their professional careers, and to make the personal contacts that will help them find the academic jobs they seek once they are on the job market. Askew School alumni and friends continue to help us make our educational experience one of the best in the country for our MPA and doctoral graduate students.
